India has decided to release 11 Pakistani civil prisoners. They have been imprisoned in India in different jails across the country. This will be done as a goodwill gesture.

Times of India reported that this is a first of a kind gesture by Indian Government. Since in April this year, an alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav was served death sentence by court-martial.

Indian officials claim that this is a goodwill gesture and should not be linked to the Jadhav issue. Every year dozens of Indians and Pakistanis are captured. They suffer immense hardships even after their sentences have been served.

Bureaucracy or good relationships between the two countries fail to flourish we hope for further acts of such goodwill gestures. There could be a number of reasons behind the unpleasant relationships between the two neighbors. The two countries face conflict over the issue of Afghanistan, the Nuclear arms race. There are also disputes over territory, trade, and water.

In many aspects, India and Pakistan face same challenges such as the struggle to reconcile traditions with modern values. Elite government at the expense of ordinary citizens. And the pressure to compete at global level.

We hope for more friendly relations between the two neighbors. Since hatred has never shortened any distances.
